Tábąąhá

At Water’s Edge

Tábąąhá (Water’s Edge)

Tábąąhá in my language means “Water’s Edge, by the water, river, lake, ocean, etc.” For much of my life, I lived without water. Growing up on the rez with no running water was always a daily challenge. I never knew the value of water until I had to carry it for myself and for my family. I’ve also lived in a dry arid region of the Navajo Nation where rainfall was scant. I remember days when I would pray for rain and use traditional knowledge just to get a cloud in the sky. From my story, Tábąąhá is also my paternal grandfather’s clan so I’ve always had an intimate relationship with water.

Tábąąhá is a celebration. A celebration of abundance, freedom, creativity, and culture.
